Philip A. White, Jr., a 34-year industry veteran, was named president and chief executive officer of the Sotheby’s International Realty® brand in February 2013, responsible for the network’s strategic growth as a leading provider of luxury residential real estate services.
White formerly served as president and chief operating officer, overseeing the global brand’s operations, business growth, servicing platform, membership sales process and relationship with the Sotheby’s Auction House. He was promoted to president and chief operating officer in April 2010, after having served as chief operating officer for the previous six years.
Under his leadership, the Sotheby’s International Realty brand’s sales volume grew by 29 percent in 2013, compared to 19 percent for the overall market, according to the National Association of Realtors®. The brand’s U.S.-affiliated brokers and sales professionals handled 24 percent more transaction sides in 2013 than 2012 – nearly three times better than the 9.2 percent gain in home sales sides reported for the overall market by the National Association of Realtors.
White has served the Sotheby’s International Realty brand in both management capacities and as a broker and owner. As a result of his focus on providing quality service to the brand’s network members, Sotheby’s International Realty Affiliates LLC has won Franchise Business Review’s Best in Category for Real Estate Franchisee Satisfaction award for the last seven years. In addition to its real estate ranking, the brand also came in third overall among the Top 50 systems with more than 250 units.
From 1980 to 1988, White held several positions in the Sotheby's International Realty network. As senior vice president and regional manager for the southeast United States, he was responsible for developing a network of affiliated brokers and listing and marketing properties in cooperation with them. In addition to holding management positions in both the New York City and Palm Beach offices, White developed and managed a high-end local brokerage business in the Atlanta market for the company.
White left the company to start his own independent real estate firm, Philip White Properties, Inc., in Atlanta, and the firm was a Sotheby's International Realty affiliate from 1988 to 1992. After four successful years at the helm, he sold his firm to Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, a subsidiary of NRT LLC, the nation’s largest residential real estate brokerage company.
Prior to his July 2004 appointment as chief operating officer of Sotheby’s International Realty Affiliates, White spent 12 years with NRT, serving as managing broker of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage’s Buckhead office in Atlanta, one of the most successful offices in the entire NRT organization.
He received his bachelor’s degree in commerce and finance from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va., in 1978. White is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
