With over 48 years of sales, financial and managerial expertise, Mr. DuFort serves his clients and prospects with a diverse background of experiences and integrity. Following an early retirement from a rich career in industry and healthcare administration, Mr. DuFort has spent the past ten years selling quality waterfront properties and condominiums in Southwest Florida.
His rich background includes the position of President and CEO of two Blue Cross/Blue Shield HMO subsidiaries with 165,000 lives and revenue of over $320 million. During his tenure he successfully turned a $15.6 million loss into $1.8 million gain in 12 months, which set the stage for a ten-year growth in reserves of more than $50 million and membership growth of over 33%. He worked effectively with providers and organized labor to improve productivity, service delivery and operations at seven clinical health centers. Mr. DuFort also led a merger of two subsidiaries resulting in 25% savings of administrative expenses. In addition, he led the team that attained full accreditation from the national Committee on Quality Assurance for two HMO plans, one of which was the first Blue Cross/Blue Shield HMO in the nation to be awarded this distinction. Before being promoted to President and CEO, Mr. DuFort served as the Chief Financial Officer. In this position, he was responsible for accounting, internal control, regulatory and rating activities and Human Resources. He also served as lead negotiator for labor contract renewals. In previous positions he has held the office of Vice President, General Manager and CFO for a tri-state manufacturing company for which he led the issuance of an Industrial Development Revenue Bond and established a new corporate entity. Prior to that, he gained experience in finance, operations and general management including internal control, procedural and financial auditing at a division of General Motors Corporation.
Mr. DuFort earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree concentrating in Accounting / Economics from the University of Michigan. He has participated in the Management Health Care Senior Executive Program at the University of Pennsylvania, and has served on the boards for several associations, including Michigan Association of Health Plans (President 1996-1997), Capital Area Health Alliance and Pfizer National Managed Care Advisory board. He developed skills in Negotiations for Executives at Harvard University, Harvard Law School. He currently holds an active Florida Real Estate Broker Associate License. Mr. DuFort resides in Palmetto, Florida with Nancy, his wife, of over 48 years.
