John Rice is the 2013 Immediate Past President of the New Hampshire Association of REALTORS. While being a tireless leader for all REALTORS in the state, Rice has employed the same commitment to service that has made him a productive and successful real estate broker. Rice has branded this effort with business clients as "Achieving success together." He looks at the sales process, whether representing buyers or sellers, as a mutual effort, where success comes when the client's goals are met. Further, he fully understands and employs the Sotheby's brand and all its marketing tools to ensure that his listings receive impeccable representation in the market place. Rice offers extraordinary community knowledge and 41- years of real estate sales experience. He is a consistent and well-respected leader in seacoast real estate. A former licensed appraiser, he is highly competent in understanding and communicating real estate values in coastal New Hampshire and southern York County, Maine. His guidance ensures that buyers pay realistic prices for the property they seek, while sellers can expect to achieve success in a timely manner. Rice began his career in York, Maine, in 1972 on a part-time basis while teaching and coaching at Berwick Academy in South Berwick, Me. He became a full-time broker in Portsmouth with Norwood Realty in 1985, coming to Tate and Foss Sotheby's International Realty in 1992. John is a recognized expert in seacoast market trends and founded the highly successful State of the Seacoast news conferences while serving two terms as President of the Seacoast Board of Realtors. He is also a past REALTOR of the Year. Rice's family roots go back more than 300 years in the seacoast area. He is a member of Portsmouth Rotary, earning a Paul Harris Fellow for his work in International Youth Exchange. The former chair of the Portsmouth Historic District Commission, Rice is a member of the Portsmouth Planning Board and sits on the Board of Directors of Portsmouth Pro Musica. John is also a retired lieutenant colonel having logged 20 years in the Army Reserves and 13 more years in the New Hampshire Air National Guard. He recently finished climbing all of New Hampshire's forty-eight 4,000-ft mountains. A graduate of St. Paul's School, Trinity College and the University of New Hampshire (M.Ed.) Rice lives in Portsmouth with his wife Joan, the former director of Leadership Seacoast and a long-time area banker. The Rice's have one grown son.
