Derek Rowley is the Broker In Charge at Mountain Sotheby's International Realty. Born in the mid-western city of Louisville, KY, Derek moved with his family to North Carolina at the age of 7 and was raised just outside of Chapel Hill, NC. After studying Philosophy at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, Derek started his career in real estate sales right out of college on the Carolina coast. It was during this time that he learned the fundamentals of real estate, starting out as a broker's assistant and quickly working his way up to fully licensed broker, working with several of the top developers in the area on an array of different types of properties. In the summer of 2006, Derek and a couple of partners founded Landis Southern Properties, a full service real estate sales, marketing, and consulting firm specializing in all aspects of developer sales. During this time, Derek was able to experience every aspect of real estate development, from land acquisition and due diligence to concept branding, marketing, and selling. In the spring of 2008, Derek's firm was hired to do consulting work for a new development in Banner Elk. Upon visiting for the first time, he immediately fell in love with the area. Having developed a huge interest in and appreciation for extraordinary land, the High Country was a dream come true. Then in the summer of 2009, Derek met the owner of Mountain Sotheby's, artist/designer John Turchin, and the rest is history. Aside from his love of real estate, Derek enjoys the numerous outdoor activities offered in the High Country as well as his love of animals and music. He is passionate about making Mountain Sotheby's the leading real estate company in the area and continuing to redefine luxury in The High Country!
