Dave Bates is motivated by education and the power of ideas. He has searched long and hard for the best ideas in business. Chances are, if you have heard of a book on business, Dave has read it.
Dave started his real estate career in 1996 as a rental associate, after graduating from Syracuse University. He began to learn about the people, the properties and the pay-offs of real estate. Intrigued by the big-picture significance of what he was doing by day, he took a five-month course at Harvard at night. The course was entitled Real Estate Investment and Finance Fundamentals. He celebrated the lessons taught in the course by putting a 23-unit building under agreement the same day as the final exam.
More than ten years later, Dave attributes much of his success as a nationally recognized top-producing agent and acclaimed broker/owner to seeking out and implementing the best ideas. Over the years, he has traveled thousands of miles and spent literally tens of thousands of dollars to learn about, capture and implement the very best concepts available in the real estate world for himself, his firm, and their clients. He has sought out the ideas of top trainers and top agents. He believes real estate clients today want and need someone who will be pro-active about helping them hit their goals and he is dedicated to that "pro-activity." Daves focus on education and ideas has led him to take a consultative approach with clients.Often he can provide context, diverse perspectives and customized solutions for his clients. He receives great joy when he sees clients reach their real estate goals. In fact, he says, Thats absolutely the best reward.
As a broker/owner for more than ten years, Dave spent much of my time helping agents solve the problems and overcome the challenges of their most difficult transactions. As a result, he personally sold or was in some way involved in the successful sale of diverse types of properties, located in a wide geographical area, totaling hundreds of millions of dollars in value.
Dave has also taken great pride in traveling the globe. But no matter where he was or where he looked, one thing eluded him: The Big Idea. In 2002, while training one of his agents at a property in Brookline Village, Dave took note of a young woman who showed some enthusiasm for the property. A few weeks later, he ran across the woman in a social setting and they really hit it off. This woman, Ingrid Viteri, an architect from Ecuador, shared with Dave her version of The Big Idea: It's not about real estate or the transaction, its about what real estate and the transaction can do for people.
Today, David and Ingrid (hablamos espanol) work as a team to help clients. They also have a family with two children, Jack and Emma, whom they hope to raise bilingual. A Newton native, Dave lived in Southern California for a time before returning to Massachusetts.Over the years he has lived in number of area neighborhoods including South End, Charlestown, Brighton and Brookline. His familys history in Coolidge Corner goes as far back as the 1920s, when his great grandfather started buying many eye-catching brick buildings in this charming locale.
