About : Malaga, Malaga, Andalucia

SANTA CATALINA CASTLE is a fortification and palatial residence situated in the Eastern District of the city of Malaga, very close to the old town and historical monuments such as the old Alcazaba and the castle of Gibralfaro. Listed as a Cultural Interest by the Junta de Andalucía (Spanish Government), this masterpiece is located in the most exclusive area of the city, dominating Malaga bay and the Mediterranean sea. The current set property consists of two buildings; the remains of the original fort built in 1625 and the palace built on the site in 1929 by the renowned aristocratic family Loring . The castle is inspired by the North African and Andalusian architecture, very fashionable at the time. The original castle has two towers and part of the walls are preserved. This fortress was originally built in 1624 by King Phillip IV as part of the widespread defenses of the city of Malaga. By early 20th Century, the fortress had fallen into ruins and Manuel Loring, Count of Mieres, decided to have his residence built adjacent to it. The French architects LEVARD and LAHALLE, constructed a neo-Arabian style palace which stood majestically in a spectacular position overlooking the bay of Malaga. Nowadays, Castillo Santa Catalina is actually running as a Historic boutique Hotel, maintaining the luxury and standing of a stately palace. Offers a majestic hallway, 4 grand palatial rooms, a small chapel, double size elegant living room, kitchen and 8 suites all of them with magnificent terraces. Each room has its own style and personality. Marbles, hydraulic floors of the time, old tiles and rich cofered will make you feel in a real palace. The castle is surrounded by beautiful gardens with a central arabic fountain from XIX century, large covered and open terraces. Situated in a privileged location only a few minutes from the city center, various famous museums as Picasso, Thyssen, Pompidou centre, the new yacht harbour, La Caleta beach, the sea promenade as well as from the new High Speed Railway (AVE)train station and recently built underground.
