About This Property

Dating from 1712, known as "Torneyro" on the outskirts of Lisbon. The evidence suggests that in 1734, belonged to a certain Feliciana Teresa Mota, and, years later, offered by the Mary I to the family confessor. António Isidro da Costa, 1st Viscount of Porto Salvo inherits the Quinta do Torneiro. Succeeding him was his nephew, grandfather of the current owners. Through a very beautiful portal, carved in relief, we access the yard, formed by the various areas and the main body of the palace, with two side wings. This residence has only one floor. The minimalist north face, seemed an extension of the chapel, from which flowed the elegance of the portal and belfry. The main parte of the building lies on a square plan and is treated almost as a sculpture. The tall pillars of white stone, the splendid entablature and the dome is combined in a "trompe l`oeil", where the blue and white tiles mimic a cornice. The gilded altar, completes this set of great beauty, made in 1718. The chapel decoration was finished between 1760 and 1770 with the placement of the Rococó tiles in the high section of the choir. On the left side the main house is composed by spaces for the staff, a large kitchen with 90m2 and huge fireplaces, storage rooms, pantries, wc's and an access room to the terrace. The main body comprises of 7 halls with a ratio between 30 and 80m2, in the dining room the others halls the spaces give access to the south and to a majestic terrace which provides access to a lush garden. Reflection of a renewed interest on nature are the precious tiles of the long dining room, formed by the union of two halls of the late eighteenth century that also overlook the gardens. On the right side, you can find the palace private area with several rooms and their bathrooms and also the basement access which in turn will give lead to the 6ha garden area.
