She learned her craft working with her Father, a real estate pioneer in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area and later jointly owned and operated a real estate company with multiple offices throughout Northern Michigan that specialized in resort properties. Paty and her husband, Paul, have been residents of John's Island since 1976, she is a member of the John's Island Commuity Service League, and has served on the John's Island Ladies Golf Committee. She enjoys playing piano, golfing and sailing; is happily married with four children and seven grandchildren.
