If one were to imagine the perfect New England escape from the city, Little River Farm would come to mind. A fabulous, authentic 1840 Colonial set on 10 extremely private acres, with a guest house, pool, tennis court, barns, and gardens.
The 4-bedroom house features wide hardwood and softwood floor boards, full length arched windows, 3 fireplaces, plaster walls, crown moldings. On the main level there are two living rooms on either side of the entry foyer, each beautifully furnished with splendid antiques, oriental rugs and super comfortable, overstuffed sofas to sink into. The dining room is enormous –easily seating 16 people. But it is the kitchen that is the heart of the house. This is really a cook's kitchen. In fact, a cookbook author's kitchen. So you can believe that it is very, very well equipped. The oversized Garland stove has six burners, two large ovens and a grill. Fireplace, wine cooler, farmers sink, plenty of work space, and a terrific farm table for casual dining. There is also an office/library. Upstairs are 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths.
Beyond the large stone patio with gas grill are the 3-bedroom guesthouse, pool area with pool house and gazebo, lighted tennis court, barns, raised bed garden and garage.
The residence is set way back from the road, reached by a gravel driveway that crosses over Mill Brook that runs through the property.
Mudge Pond, a beautiful 200+ acre lake for swimming, boating, and fishing is nearby as are the charming village of Sharon, the Housatonic River, 100s of acres of conserved land and the Appalachian Trail. The area is full of wonderful things to do and explore, but you probably won't want to ever leave Little River Farm.
