This boutique hotel in Lunlunta, Maipu, about 20 minutes from Mendoza City in Argentina’s marquee wine-producing region, has an ultramodern sensibility and a laid-back attitude. Intimate and exclusive, the eight rooms on this five-acre property are the love child of two architects, who built the small cottages to blend in seamlessly with Mendoza’s natural splendor. And you don’t even have to leave to taste the bounty: The hotel has its very own vineyard. Built by architects Gustavo Espitia and Leticia Barchilon and opened in 2008, the eight-room hotel sits on five acres, with a cherry orchard and a small vineyard of its very own. Privacy is the key word here. A lovely outdoor pool, a restaurant where you can get your Argentine beef fix and friendly service from the dedicated staff, the hotel delivers on all fronts. The minimalist rooms have an eco-chic vibe, designed with historic European warehouses in mind. The exteriors are made of light wood that nearly sparkles in the sunshine, with metal roofs; the interiors are of great taste, with bare white walls, confortable beds and smooth cement floors. Great porches, which have views out to the Andes, complete the picture. In 2011 the hotel’s small vineyard produced its first harvest, a fresh and juicy Malbec of outstanding flavors that the guests can savor during meals.
