Named after the donkey in the well knowing West Indian children's song, Tingalayo is an awe inspiring 6 bedroom, 6 bathroom luxury villa situated high up on 4 acres of hill-top land with jaw dropping views of the West End of Tortola, Jost Van Dyke and the myriad of islands beyond. The property is made up of four principal buildings. The main house, with the ultimate in infinity pools, master bedroom suite, guesthouse and fully equipped TV and media room. Throughout, the house has been beautifully designed and decorated and the senses are stimulated by the vibrant blend of colours that greet you in every room, the wonderful artifacts from all over the world and the lush tropical gardens.
Spectacular is not a word that does justice to the backdrop of this property. One arrives via secure gates at the top parking area, which can comfortably accommodate 5 cars, and are greeted by a huge Indonesian Buddha who sits majestically overlooking the house and the vast expanse beyond. Steps lead down to a rear courtyard that connects the main house to the master bedroom suite and media room. The master suite is completely independent from the main house with its own private deck, heated Jacuzzi and four-poster day bed. Inside the bedroom faces out to sea and behind is a large dressing and bathroom area full of antique Indonesian furnishings. A few steps away through a tiled courtyard is the TV/media room which shuts itself off from the world behind heavy mahogany French doors, a wonderful retreat in which to relax in the air-conditioned cool and watch your favourite movie.
Moving to the main house the kitchen is beautifully appointed with granite countertops, Viking stainless steel appliances and an adjoining pantry with two large fridge freezers and two washing machines. From here one looks out through the living room, complete with large comfortable sofa's wide bookshelves, integrated ipod/surround sound audio system, to the 14m-heated infinity pool. This world-class architectural feature is the natural centre of the main house with a winding leading edge that frames the view, a shallow end for children and submerged seating on which to relax and watch the sun sink over the horizon. A coral stone terrace surrounds the pool with ample space for entertaining and sun loungers and there is a built in BBQ and covered area for al-fresco dining. The three bedrooms in the main house flow out onto the pool terrace and are connected to one another by a wrap around hardwood deck. The first ensuite bedroom is decorated in an Italian style with a four-poster bed, hidden dressing area and delightful private outdoor shower. Bordering the pool, there is a two-bedroom suite that shares a large bathroom with double basin, green mosaic tiles and a very innovative bathtub perfect for small children.
A short walk down stone steps through tropical flowers and shrubs one arrives at the two-storey guesthouse, which comfortably sleeps four. This space gives total privacy from the main house and communal areas and has its own open plan kitchen and living room areas and upstairs two spacious bedrooms with shared bathroom. Large windows and the same wrap around deck afford different views of Frenchman's Cay and St John and there is even a plunge-pool in which to take a relaxing dip.
Tingalayo comprises a heady mixture of design, culture and vista that combine to provide the ultimate in luxury tropical living. Above all one feels tranquility and privacy in which to truly be and re-vitalize the senses.
The history of the British Virgin Islands (BVI) is the stuff of epic tales. Norman Island, at the southern tip of the chain, is said to be the setting for Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island.” Nearby caves once hid riches plundered by pirates. The ocean floor is a graveyard for sunken ships. En savoir plus sur les maisons de luxe Iles Vierges Britanniques
