That's the essence of Barry Van Patten.

Personally active buying and selling real estate for 40 years, Barry has been a licensed agent for over half a decade and has a passion for seamlessly bringing the right buyers together with the right sellers. He is dedicated to building life-long relationships and referrals based on faith, integrity, trust and respect and takes pride in specializing in fine properties located in Kierland, North Scottsdale, Paradise Valley and the Arcadia neighborhood of east Phoenix. Barry works exclusively with Tom Locati who was recently ranked by the Wall Street Journal as 27th nationally (in volume) for real estate agents, having closed just shy of $100M worth of business.

A Valley resident since 1951, Barry grew up in Arcadia and has lived in Scottsdale for 30 years. He recalls meeting a number of Russ Lyon agents through business, church and personal connections and says that he was always impressed with their integrity and high moral values. "When I decided to go into real estate, I wanted to be associated with people whose ethics are similar to mine, so I chose Russ Lyon. And now that we're part of Sotheby's, that's just icing on the cake."

Barry was involved in the health and fitness industry for 33 years and is an avid runner, cyclist and swimmer. "I participated in my first triathlon when my kids challenged me to do so for my 55th birthday. It was a tough competition, but there was something about it that I really enjoyed, and I've since gone on to participate in numerous marathons and triathlons."

Along with running, cycling, swimming and golf ("My handicap is currently too high to mention, hopefully next year it will be better"), Barry enjoys using his spare time to volunteer when he can with the House of Refuge, a Christian organization that works with men who are on the verge of being incarcerated. "It's truly frightening to see how substance abuse is the cause of so much misery, and it's very, very satisfying when we're able to help put someone on the right path."
