In 1936, the chairman of the Union Pacific Railroad, W. Averell Harriman, purchased 4,300 acres in central Idaho. Sun Valley is the name of the world-famous ski resort, as well as the small, European-styled village east of Ketchum. The name also encompasses the 30-mile stretch that is the Wood River Valley, an area filled with towns, rivers, mountains, gulches, campgrounds, and cliffs. Sun Valley is home to phenomenal mountain scenery, unlimited year-round recreational offerings, and down-to-earth people. All of this makes Sun Valley, whether it is Ketchum, Hailey, Bellevue, or elsewhere, one of the most desirable places in the country to live.
Mid-Valley sits halfway between the towns of Ketchum and Hailey. With a more rural feeling, this area has been rapidly growing in the past few years along the east-west roads that meander up through the mountains. Several beautiful high-end subdivisions are newer to the area. Mid-Valley features access to the Big Wood River as well as gorgeous views of Hyndman Peak up East Fork Canyon and Mahoney Butte up Greenhorn Gulch.
