Block Island is 13 miles off the southern coast of Rhode Island, an hour's ride on the year round ferry. The population is 900 plus on Ground Hog Day when the islanders gather at a local pub to count, but up to 15,000 on a busy Fourth of July weekend. Those numbers start to illustrate why Block Island is such a special place: it is uniquely itself—and where you'll want it to be!

Block Island is a place of natural beauty. We have 11 square miles of rolling fields, stone walls, hundreds of ponds, innumerable scenic vistas, twenty-plus miles of seashore, wind swept cliffs, estuaries, two idyllic lighthouses, stunning moon rises and sunsets, classic New England and Victorian era structures, all the fresh air you could ever want, star filled skies, and gentle summer sea breezes. It is the home to numerous wildlife, and over half of all North American birds have been spotted on this "bird way." Over 44% of the island is conserved; it has been designated one of the "Last Great Places" on earth by the Nature Conservancy! Yet all this natural wonder is easily accessible. "The Greenway" consists of over 30 miles of maintained hiking trails open to the public, as are all the beaches, all 17 miles of them! Twenty two miles of paved roads—never far from the ocean— make sightseeing by bike or car easy and fun.

So how do you get to Block Island? Year round air service from Westerly (RI) airport and seasonal from Providence. Year round ferry service from Point Judith, RI, and seasonal from Newport, RI, and New London, CT. Don't bother buying a round trip ticket. Once you get here, you won't want to leave!
