Commonly considered "The most beautiful house in Lucca," the villa, in the hamlet of Massa Macinaia, sits on 21 hectares of land, including farmland, olive groves and pinewood. While it has all of the elements of a country estate, including privacy, remove from neighbors and silence, it is only 8 K from the walls of Lucca, and 4 K from the autostrada A12 (Forte dei Marmi is 25 minutes away and Florence is 50 minutes away). Villa Massei is internationally famous for its extraordinary garden which has been widely published in innumerable books and magazines including Vanity Fair, Architectural Digest and Gardens Illustrated. Built in the 16th century as a hunting lodge for the counts Sinibaldi, the estate consists of three dwellings: the villa, a guesthouse, and a custodian and service residence. In addition to this, the rear garden of the Villa is embellished with a 16th century grotto complete with antique stone masks spewing water to five individual fountains. The swimming pool, 16 x 6 mt, near the guesthouse, is fully private and gardened in flowering Mediterranean plants. The villa has three reception rooms, a dining room, a large formal bedroom with en suite bath, a study, kitchen and breakfast room on the main floor, while on the upper floor there is a study and two en suite bedrooms, a master suite with large walk-in closet, plus four further rooms which could be rearranged to provide two additional en suite bedrooms plus storage (bringing the total of bedrooms in the main house to five). The cantina level consists of a fine wine storage room and a day bath in addition to ample dry storage. The guesthouse consists of a large reception room, eat-in kitchen, laundry, and a pool service area with changing room, shower and bar with refrigerator. The upper floor contains two large bedroom suites with en suite baths and a central hall. The custodian's house has three bedrooms and a bath in the larger part, plus a separate studio servant's apartment with kitchen area.
