This exceptional Winelands lifestyle estate lies in the historic Val du Charron, the Wamakersvallei in a region that is known for its majestic mountains, age old shady oak trees and icy winters. This estate of approximately 27 hectares is tucked away in the select and historical Bovlei valley. It has in recent years won various International Awards for its potstill brandy. The Wine Estate of 27 hectares lies snugly hidden in the narrow valley between the cliffs of the Hawekwa Mountains and Groenberg, 5 kilometers outside the picturesque village of Wellington, on the Bovlei-route. Farming and viniculture has been practised on this farm for almost three centuries. In 1705 the Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie granted the farm Rustenburg to Jan Laurense van Rostock. According to the conditions issued by the VOC, Van Rostock had to plant wheat and oak trees and bread cattle. During 2002 the current owners of the farm began with the restoration of the beautiful 18th century homestead and the upgrading and expansion of the existing vineyards coinciding with the 400th anniversary of the foundation of the VOC in 1602. Tucked between the vineyards of this immaculate wine estate you will find the former horse stable with its thick, sweet-scented thatched roof that has been converted to the most romantic hideaway in the Wamakersvallei. The Jonkershuis has been restored to capture the style, grace and elegance of an era gone by. This historic manor house is surrounded by 8 acres of pristine garden, historic wine cellar, original farm house (restored), romantic guest cottage, horse stables, manager’s house, office building, two double staff houses, warehouse/shed providing undercover parking for vehicles and farm implements. More than 14ha (35 acres) are planted with various wine cultivars, guavas and olive trees. The farm is registered as a ‘wine estate’ which means it can make wine on the farm from grape cultivars from the farm and market it as an ‘estate wine’. The farm produces the following grape cultivars: pinotage, cabernet sauvignon, shiraz, merlot and cabernet franc. There is sufficient water for irrigation and household purposes. Price is exclusive of VAT.
