Tommie is a graduate of Florida State University in Tallahassee where she majored in English literature. She also attended the University of Utah where she obtained a masters degree in Education. Her career fields have included property investment in both Wyoming and Utah, teaching (Tommie was teacher of the year in Pinedale, Wyoming in 1986), and 22 years as a dental hygienist. Personal Tommie and her husband, Jim, have lived in the 9th & 9th Sugar House area for fourteen years. Avid rock climbers and cross country skiers, they moved to Salt Lake City from the small ranching community of Lander, Wyoming in 1987. Tommie and Jim lived and worked abroad in Germany for two years thus, they became fluent in German and took the opportunity to tour and climb in the Alps of Switzerland and the Dolomites of Italy. Tommie also studied Spanish while living with a family in Morelia, Mexico. Community Tommie's volunteer work has included the Salt Lake Dental Clinic, working on a construction crew for Habitat for Humanity, and teaching English as a second language for the Even Start Program.
