Perhaps no one has more enthusiasm about Philadelphia and its future than Dennis Carlisle, a combination real-estate professional, architectural/city historian and creative educator who by day chairs the Department of Visual Arts at Boys' Latin of Philadelphia Charter School. He came to Philadelphia in 2003 for graduate school at University of the Arts, fell in love with city and set down roots by buying a home in 2007. Researching the history of his own home triggered an interest in investigating other buildings in his Washington Square West neighborhood, and he soon researched the origins, history and potential future use of each structure, lot and abandoned property in his area. By 2011 he started his own blog to share his findings and opinions. The media began paying attention with interview requests arriving from WHYY, Philadelphia Weekly, Philadelphia City Paper and even Preston & Steve on WMMR. The esteemed Athenaeum of Philadelphia was so impressed it offered Dennis a personal tour and free membership valid through 2050. Since 2011, he has written about more than 500 buildings and other properties for various web sites, all the while remaining a devoted, dedicated teacher. He brings his vast knowledge to Kurfiss Sotheby's International Realty's Philadelphia office and serves as an excellent resource for the typical buyer and seller as well as to those who are seeking investment opportunities in residential, commercial and mixed-use categories.
