Tinos is one of the islands of Northern Cyclades, located between Andros and Mykonos. It is reachable by sea, through the ports of Rafina (duration of travel ranges between 1.5 and 4 hours depending on the type of the ship) and Piraeus (duration of travel ranges between 2.5 and 5 hours depending on the type of the ship), while Mykonos is only 10 minutes away via local connection.

Peacefulness and tranquility are the main characteristics of the island that is often characterized as the Island of Virgin Mary, due to the majestic church of Panagia Evangelistria and the miraculous icon of Virgin Mary inside it. Many pilgrims from all over the world visit Tinos every year to pray and celebrate the Dormition of Virgin Mary on the 15th of August.

In Tinos one can find more than 45 traditional villages, where time seems to have stopped. Windmills, dovecotes, traditional fountains, dry-stone walls and stately mansions release an aura of bygone eras that spreads among alleys, while the Venetian fortress and town on the steep mountain of Exomvourgo complete the landscape, creating an ambiance of plain uniqueness.

Tinos’s coastline is characterized by diversity, as it includes everything, from golden sand to white pebbles and from remote to cosmopolitan beaches. Lovers of water sports and scuba diving are offered many opportunities to explore the sea around the island, while at nights the clarity of the sky allows for gazing at the stars.

During ancient times Tinos was believed to be the residence of Aeolus, God of the Winds, who released winds from there to the world. Moreover, Tinos is considered to be the birthplace of the father of the famous sculptor Phidias, while throughout history more than 1,000 artisans used the local marble to create masterpieces. Famous artists Giannoulis Halepas and Nikolaos Gyzis were also born on the island.
