This exceptional Palace is an exclusive and unique building. In the historic neighborhood of Graça, the Palace`s sober facade - one of the most beautiful examples of 17th century architecture built on the orders of King D. Filipe II - displays seven bay windows on its noble floor with knotted railings and armillary spheres on the outer railings. In 2000 underwent impeccable refurbishment which returned it to its former glory in which it’s most important works were created by the famous Italian architect Bigaglia at the beginning of the XXth century. The main entrance has an original stairway with a domed arch on the first flight of stairs and the walls are clad with panels of wall tiles applied during the last century, harking back to architect Bigaglia`s work. The top of the stair is crowned with the Silva Telles coast of arms; of special note is the Entrance Hall with a painted stucco ceiling, doorways framed with stonework and walls covered with panels of tiles as well as a perfect copy of Velazquez`s Rendition of Breda which used to belong to the Daupias collection. The Ballroom has a stucco ceiling painted in various hues; the upper parts of the walls have stuccoed sections and are clad in panels of tiles from the XVIIIth century depicting hunting and palatial scenes. The Visitors´s or Theatre Hall has a wood paneled ceiling and six sections painted in grey while the walls are hung with panels of Gobellins tapestries from the XVIIIth century. The recently refurbished Library has an old plank ceiling in the Portuguese style, two doors enriched with marble and Italian columns as well as walls lined with gold damask. The Dining room, which was remodeled in 1922, has a paneled ceiling while the walls have panels of tiles from the beginning of the XVIIth or end of the XVIth centuries; it also boasts a large Portuguese style fireplace lined with Hispano-Arab tiles and cornicing and base made from Montelavar marble, presided over by two lions made from white China ceramic. This floor also houses the Billiard Room with a plain ceiling, friezes of Gobellin tapestry and cladding of panels of multi-colored tiles in the D. Maria I style, the small Gun Room with original panels of tiles from the XVIIth century depicting country scenes. The palace´s upper floor houses a succession of luxury private rooms with special mention going to the main suite completely lined in pale beige paneling, the lady´s room with a fireplace, Italian marble columns and arved ceiling covered in gold leaf and the dressing and bathroom with a bath tub made from black Camplide stone and tiled walls. The palace´s gardens on three elevated levels constitute a small museum of Portuguese tile ceramics with various items purchased from antique shops around the country. The lower garden, at the level of the noble floor, is adorned with box-hedging and low walls, extending over terraces to the upper levels; the various panels and friezes of tiles from diverse epochs, especially those from the XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries, are visible from all levels as are the ponds, pergolas and terraces. In an annex, which used to be the stables, there is an indoor heated swimming pool with a wave machine, jacuzzi for 7 people, changing rooms with showers, gym and games room. This exceptional palace transpires the heydays of its history when it hosted the most sophisticated parties attended by the most distinguished society of the time.
