Ed Foran has a unique background for an Aspen real estate broker. Born in Chicago as the son of nationally prominent trial lawyer Thomas Foran (U.S. Attorney during the '68 Democratic National Convention and prosecutor of the Chicago 7), Ed and his family were very politically active, particularly during his father's campaign for Governor of Illinois in 1972. From an early age Ed has been comfortable with the media and with meeting people from of all walks of life.
After attending University of Alaska-Fairbanks, Ed settled in Alaska for 14 years where he met Barbara, his wife of 31 years. Ed fished commercially for salmon, while Barbara taught school in remote Indian villages, and Ed worked as a carpenter. Ed and Barbara and young daughter Katie lived for many years in a log cabin without electricity or running water.
Ed also became involved in racing sled dogs while in Alaska, competing in 1000 mile endurance races, most notably finishing in the money twice in The Iditarod and once in the Yukon Quest!
In 1989 Ed and his family moved to Boulder, Colorado where he began his real estate career, specializing in the sales and leasing of commercial real estate, investment analysis and property management. In 1993, he moved to Aspen where he expanded into residential real estate.
Ed's extensive background in both commercial and residential real estate, particularly in and around Aspen, often make him the perfect fit for a client seeking a broker who takes a professional and analytical approach to real estate sales. Ed's impeccable ethics are known throughout the industry, and he has many repeat clients who trust his integrity, diplomacy and expertise. His experience in Alaska has prepared him for any challenge. As Ed says, "having spent the night lost in a whiteout on the Bering Sea ice, it put things in perspective; there is no real estate deal too difficult."
Ed continues to challenge himself both physically and mentally with cycling and Nordic skiing endurance events, as well as being active in Community Theatre. In addition to serving on several non-profit boards, Ed is past President of the Aspen Board of Realtors and was named Realtor of the Year by the Aspen Board of Realtors in 2006.
