The area known as Fairbanks Ranch was once part of a Spanish land grant and was purchased by silent film stars Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford, his wife, in the 1920s. They dubbed their over 3,000 acres of land “Rancho Zorro,” an homage to one of Fairbanks’ on-screen roles.

Years later, in 1980, construction began on the Fairbanks Ranch Country Club, which developer Raymond A. Watt intended as a recreational center for the residents of the community. The opening of the club coincided with the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games as the Country Club was chosen as the site for the Equestrian Speed and Endurance Test, the only equestrian event held outside of Los Angeles.

Today, the private club offers a variety of amenities to its members, including 27 holes of golf spread out over three 9-hole courses: Valley, Lakes and Ocean, which accommodates all skill levels. Golfers are free to choose two of the three courses to combine for a full 18 holes of golf. The Fairbanks Ranch Country Club courses are unique in that no homes are built on the courses, allowing for a very natural setting filled with water, trees, plants and animal life.
