The Course Description:
The Bridges at Rancho Santa Fe features a naturally sculpted, world-class private golf course that is the site of the Battle at the Bridges and home to some of the greatest players to ever play the game. Designed by Robert Trent Jones II Group in 1999, this 18-hole, par-71 course boasts five sets of tees, and plays almost 7,000 yards from the tips. The course’s dramatic terrain and signature bridges are unmatched by any other course in San Diego. The steep cliffs and deep canyons evoke thoughts of such award-winning courses as Pebble Beach and Princeville.
Players of every skill level will find the course both challenging and memorable. The course rating is 74.0 and it has a slope rating of 145. The course is ranked 15th in the state of California on Golf Digest’s 2011-12 Best in State list.
Course Tour:
Carved into the lofty coastal terrain, this 18-hole work of art is characterized by arching fairways, canyon carries and one spectacular hole tucked into an orange grove. Designers incorporated offset tee placements, some lined along canyons and others situated down hillsides. No two holes are even remotely the same, so players of all skill levels will find the course memorable.
“The design philosophy was to create a visually stimulating and mentally challenging course that provided a variety of strategic options to make it enjoyable for players of all abilities,” said Bruce Charlton, Robert Trent Jones II Group. “To achieve this, we incorporate a risk/reward philosophy, providing bail-out zones for higher-handicap players, while enticing accomplished players to hit great shots.” The first hole is an example of risk vs. reward. From the tee of the strategically designed par-5, golfers may choose to gamble on the drive and be dancing in two. More conservative tee shots may land golfers with a minimal view of the green.
The signature 10th hole features a 150-yard carry over a deep scenic canyon to a fairway and green perched on a peninsula of land. A 285-foot bridge takes golfers over a majestic creek to spectacular views waiting on the other side. The dramatic carry combined with the natural beauty of the creek below are sure to make this one of the most photographed holes in California. "San Diego has a lot of good golf history, but The Bridges will finally bring international golf course acclaim to the nation's best golf climate," Charlton said.
