Torrey Pines Golf Course

Named after the rare tree that is found in the wild only along this stretch of San Diego coastline and on Santa Rose Island, Torrey Pines Golf Course is the nation’s premier municipal golf course. Featuring two championship-level courses on cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Torrey Pines provides a golfing and viewing experience unlike any other. Entirely owned and operated by the City of San Diego, Torrey Pines is available for all golfers to enjoy.

Torrey Pines hosts the Farmers Insurance Open in conjunction with The Century Club every year in January or February and is one of the most popular non-major events on the PGA tour. The Farmers Insurance Open began as the San Diego Open in 1952 and moved to Torrey Pines as the Andy Williams San Diego Open in 1968. When played at maximum length, the south course of Torrey Pines is the longest golf course played on the entire PGA Tour.

Torrey Pines was also the site of one of the most memorable tournaments in golf history—the 2008 U.S. Open—when Tiger Woods defeated Rocco Mediate in a sudden death playoff after a full overtime round to conclude 90 prior holes of golf over 5 days.
