Jan Courlas

Jan Courlas and her family have been full time residents of Coral Bay, St. John for over 20 years and were seasonal visitors dating to the early 1970’s. Jan joined USVI Sotheby’s International Realty in 2015 where she is Senior Broker Associate at the newly-opened Wharfside Landing office located adjacent to the passenger ferry dock. She has attained her Broker’s license, Certified Residential Specialist and Graduate Realtor Institute credentials. Jan was previously with Holiday Homes of St. John, Inc. for 15 years and has been a leading agent on St. John with both listings and sales activity in recent years. In 2008, she served as President of the St. John Board of Realtors after having served as Vice President and Chair of the MLS Committee in previous years. Jan has also served on the Board of Directors of the Virgin Islands Territorial Association of Realtors and in 2008 was named “Realtor of the Year” from the US Virgin Islands.

She is interested in community-based educational activities and since 2009 Jan has served on the Gifft Hill School Board of Trustees and is currently its Secretary having served as Vice President as well. During her children’s youth, she served as President of the St. John Antilles School Association and led the St. John Wolfpack Girls Soccer Team fundraising activities. Over the years, Jan has assisted with many leadership and fundraising activities for a number of community and educational organizations in both the Seattle, WA area and on St. John.
Professionally, in addition to her real estate career, Jan was previously an owner of Vanguard Information Architects, Inc., a technology management consulting firm for 15 years and prior to that was an executive with BankAmerica in Seattle, WA. Jan also did a stint in the 1970’s in Washington, DC working in the areas of municipal finance and urban policy. She holds a BA in Sociology and History from Lycoming College and a Masters of Public Affairs from The American University.
Jan can often be seen swimming with the turtles at Maho Bay. She and her husband Captain Jug, enjoy JuggerKnot, a 36 ft. charter power boat. They live in Upper Carolina overlooking beautiful Coral Bay where they enjoy their Decker Terrier, Bodie. They take pleasure in hosting visits from their daughters Ashley & Jackie, and friends & family throughout the year who always enjoy a trip to their “home in paradise”.
