Anyone who has embarked on designing a home knows how much there is to decide on. From furniture to fixtures, the selections can get overwhelming. While some may turn to trends, a tool for designing the perfect space could come from an unexpected source: astrology. Knowing your zodiac sign\u2019s proclivities might help create a home that feels right. As the new zodiac season kicks off (October 23-November 21), it\u2019s time to ask: how do you design the perfect home for Scorpios?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cScorpios enjoy their privacy, and their home becomes a reflection of that energy,\u201d says <\/span>Anthony Perrotta<\/span><\/a>, an astrologer and interior designer based in Providence, Rhode Island. For this reason, Scorpios may be drawn to the seclusion of this <\/span>Mount Veeder property<\/span><\/a> in Napa Valley. Set on 130 acres, the sprawling private estate\u2014designed by award-winning British architect David Connor\u2014smoothly combines elements of modernism, art deco, and deconstructivism. A towertop terrace with unobstructed 360-degree views across the landscape provides a peaceful, protected place to escape from the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Still, Scorpios also gravitate toward cozy spaces\u2014and in domestic interiors, mood lighting is a must. Low lighting and candles are easy ways to add drama. \u201cCouple that with a richness in textures and soft materials, and that is a recipe for a beautiful space for a Scorpio,\u201d says Perrotta.<\/span><\/p>\n

Color palettes also speak to this love of moody atmosphere: Scorpios thrive in spaces grounded in darker colors, with high-contrast accents. \u201cThey could do black and white or light wood and navy\u2014but there would have to be that dark richness to it,\u201d says <\/span>Courtney Valiquette<\/span><\/a>, an interior designer based in Kelowna, British Columbia. An <\/span>apartment at 111 West 57th Street<\/span><\/a>, New York, features a perfectly immersive, amethyst-hued dining room, with matching curtains and chairs.<\/span><\/p>\n

When it comes to textures, Scorpios prefer earthy materials that feel soft and cool to the touch. Velvet, leather, and stone come to mind, as do faux fur, shearling, and suede. Whatever they choose, \u201cplushness is key,\u201d says Valiquette, as layering creates a depth that echoes their own. Pile up the duvet covers, place a thick knitted blanket on a couch, and layer sheepskin rugs on carpets, she suggests.<\/span><\/p>\n

Given Scorpios\u2019 capacity for deep transformation\u2014Perrota describes them as refiners \u201cwho shed their skin time and time again\u201d\u2014modular furniture could be a game-changer, says Valiquette. \u201cThey\u2019re not tied to one way of being,\u201d she says, so rooms that can easily transform with adaptable furniture and decor options may be perfect.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As this is the sign of mysticism and magic, ultimately having a private place to retreat from the world is important\u2014such as the meditation room in the <\/span>Villa Corazon in Lake Travis, Texas<\/span><\/a>. Designs including reading nooks or room dividers can also help create a area of refuge. \u201cWhether the space is down a hallway or separated from the more public parts of the home,\u201d says Perrotta, Scorpios \u201cneed to have a place to quietly go away from others.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
