Ever wonder why you gravitate to certain types of homes more than others? Your zodiac sign may have something to do with it. Whereas the intuitive Pisces <\/span>craves an artsy home<\/span><\/a> with a wide-open floor plan, visionary Aquarius <\/span>prizes light-filled homes<\/span><\/a> that maximize indoor\/outdoor living. Aries are known for boldness, so as their zodiac season gets underway (March 20-April 19), it\u2019s time to ask: how do you design the perfect home for an Aries?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBeing a fire sign, lighting is of utmost importance,\u201d says <\/span>Anthony Perrotta<\/span><\/a>, an astrologer and interior designer based in Rhode Island. \u201cThey truly get energized by windows, good lighting, and a space that can be as changeable as them.\u201d A <\/span>loftlike townhouse<\/span><\/a> near central Milan fits the bill. Skylights drench the communal spaces in light, and the floors are so large they could be used for just about anything, especially large gatherings. The leafy third-floor terrace offers another space to dream big.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Traditional designs tend to put an Aries off, especially if they feel stifling. \u201cIf the layout or design is too rigid, they won\u2019t be happy,\u201d says Perrotta. So it\u2019s best to avoid closed floor plans, especially cloistering details like galley kitchens, laminate wood panels and low ceilings. Open floor plans are ideal, as are polished, masculine materials with some heft to them like brick, wood or concrete.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This <\/span>airy Manhattan triplex<\/span><\/a> at 111 West 57th St., meticulously designed by the New York-based firm Studio Sofield, strikes just the right balance of lightness and drama\u2014see the sunlit spiral staircase\u2014for the notoriously fun-loving sign. An Aries will also enjoy watching the hustle and bustle\u2014and switching up furniture layouts in the four spacious bedrooms. The secondary en-suite bathrooms, with custom Studio Sofield-designed fixtures and crystallo gold quartzite finishes, exude well-built elegance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Aries star signs love to make a statement. \u201cThey have no problem being the first in anything,\u201d says Perrotta, \u201cso they are more willing to take risks and go big.\u201d An <\/span>expansive apartment on Manresa Road<\/span><\/a>, one of the most sought-after addresses in Chelsea, London, has serious main character energy. \u201cStatement walls, bold accent furniture, unique sculpture\u2014it\u2019s all for them,\u201d says Perrotta. High ceilings and sizable windows keep things contemporary. The reception and dining rooms will make this sociable sign happy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Aries can be eclectic, playing with patterns, styles colors and lighting, says Perrotta. \u201cThey\u2019re connected to warm colors like reds, oranges and golds, as well as yellows, olive greens, washed-out blacks and brighter hues.\u201d Of course, this sign likes to do things its own way; don\u2019t be surprised if they really run with a color palette.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Being led by Mars, Aries homemakers may well opt for leather accents or furniture. They\u2019re also drawn to sinuous, no-nonsense pieces that don\u2019t take up too much space. \u201c<\/span>Oversized furniture can weigh them down,\u201d says Perrotta, so \u201cthey may have a harder time with anything too curved or feminine. Sharp angular lines are more their vibe.\u201d

Above all, Aries want a flexible space they can call their own. The more cutting edge the better, but it should let their personality shine. \u201cThey crave the ability to change things up whenever they feel like it,\u201d says Perrota. \u201c<\/span>The home needs to have their stamp. It has to be as bold and dynamic as they are.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
