Weekend event was attended by numerous Northern Nevada businesses to

begin framing a new home for Sgt. Humphrey and his wife, Lindsey  

Sierra Sotheby’s International Realty (SIR) and agent Jean Merkelbach are proud to have participated in the recent wall raising, framing party and dedication on behalf of military veteran Sgt. Thomas Humphrey and his wife Lindsey.  Numerous companies from throughout Northern Nevada took part in the event to build a new home for the Humphrey family, which was organized by the Defenders of Freedom, a group dedicated to “Building homes in our backyard for America’s Heroes”.

The 1,739 square foot home is being built at 2000 Back Nine Trail in Reno, and is being donated to the Humphrey family as the first of many residences being built by the recently established Northern Nevada Reno Chapter of the Defenders of Freedom.  The Humphrey’s new home will be built and ready for them to move into by this Christmas.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be involved with the Defenders of Freedom, and it was a great pleasure to take part in the ‘raise the walls’ event,” said Ms. Merkelbach.  “We all owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the men and women who serve so courageously in our military, and seeing so many businesses from Northern Nevada take part in honoring Sgt. Humphrey is proof of what a great community we live in.”

Sgt. Humphrey has spent the last year and a half undergoing 22 surgeries to date at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego. Muscle had to be taken from his back and wrapped on his left leg to give it structure in order to stand. He has also been fitted with Prosthesis for his right leg and requires a brace for his left leg in order to walk at this time.

Sgt. Humphrey’s military awards include Bronze Star with Combat Distinguishing Service, Combat Action Ribbon with one Gold Star, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and Navy Unit Citation with one Gold Star, Korean Defense Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with one Bronze  Star, Iraq Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one Gold Star, NATO Medal-ISAF Afghanistan, and the Purple Heart.
