In 1906, the Bliss family assembled the Glenbrook Inn which included buildings from the original Jellerson Hotel and Lakeshore House. By the early 1900\u2019s the once busy lumber operations had all but disappeared and Glenbrook had become the bucolic site of the Glenbrook Inn and Ranch. With railroad service from Truckee to Tahoe City and steamer service across the lake to Glenbrook, the Inn became the fashionable summer resort of affluent vacationers from around the country.<\/p>\n<\/a> ago, the family gradually acquired parcels around the original Glenbrook Inn and Ranch that now compromise this idyllic compound. The name is derived from the towering rocky outcrop, Shakespeare Rock, where early settlers claimed they could see the cameo profile of the \u201cOld Bard\u201d. Over the past 25 years, they have relocated and restored many of the historic structures and buildings and have worked with architect Marc Appleton in designing and new construction, taking great care to maintain the historic integrity of the original Ranch. There are horse stables with paddocks, a green house, vegetable gardens, animal\u00a0enclosures, rodeo grounds with pens and bleachers where the annual “Glenbrook Rodeo” is held, and\u00a0the iconic Shakespeare Rock monolith lies within the estate, a backdrop for this awe inspiring hamlet.\u00a0Plans and permits are underway for a new main residence across from the shore with lake, meadow and\u00a0mountain views. This grand home, along with the other remodeled cabins and guest homes, are the\u00a0vision of renowned architect Marc Appleton.
