Our monthly series asks: What decor best suits each star sign? Soft-hearted Cancer likes simple pleasures—and lots of comfort, writes Jill Krasny

Ever notice how some homes tick all your boxes, while others make you feel uninspired? Your star sign may have something to do with this. Busy Gemini likes a home that can keep up with their ever-changing interests, while homebody Taurus craves comfort and ease, and artsy Pisces needs a floor plan that flows and lets in the light. Soft-hearted Cancer, meanwhile, needs a home that feels comforting. So as their zodiac season gets underway (June 21 to July 22), it’s time to ask: How do you design the perfect home for a Cancer?

“Being the sign of domesticity and home life, Cancer knows how to make any place a home,” says Anthony Perrotta, an astrologer and interior designer based in Providence, Rhode Island. “But their most ideal places are ones that provide simple pleasures and lots of comfort.”

Lilac Manor, a stately Cape Cod estate in Montecito—a celebrity mainstay in Santa Barbara, California—is perfect for Cancerians. The luminous all-white rooms, handcrafted millwork and red oak floors exude warmth, while a well-kept garden—with its mature trees, rare blooms and vegetable bed—appeals to Cancer’s nurturing side.

Cancer isn’t afraid of tackling remodelling projects, especially if it brings them closer to their dream home. They shouldn’t overlook a property with minor cosmetic issues or even a fixer-upper. In fact, their tendency toward nostalgia “means they may find beauty in older homes or historic properties,” says Perrotta. They’re also clever about finding ways to modernize spaces while preserving what makes them special.

A 1909 villa in Lindingӧ, a wealthy island connected by bridge to downtown Stockholm, perfectly balances bygone elegance and modern convenience. Art Nouveau-style wallpaper covers the walls in common areas like the hallway and dining and living rooms, while the light-filled kitchen (and walk-in closet) has enough space for casual gatherings.

“This is without a doubt a total Cancerian vibe,” says Perrotta. The three-story villa, designed by leading Swedish architectural firm Dorph & Hӧӧg, embodies vintage charm with its muted palette and original turn-of-the-century details like a ceiling medallion and Swedish empire chandelier.

Home means simple pleasures and comforts for Cancerians, who also value security. They like home to feel “a bit like a shell,” says Perotta, and they may prefer entertaining in to venturing out with family and friends.

A modernist mansion in the Pacific Palisades’ ultra-exclusive Riviera neighborhood comes with everything Cancer needs for prime-time hosting. The stone patio features a sizable pool and spa, plus an outdoor bar and grill (and deck), while a turf field offers plenty of room for kids to run around.

In terms of color palettes, Cancer is naturally drawn to cooler tones that reflect the water or coastline. Think: cream, white, silver, black, yellow, soft blues and pastels, says Perrotta. “They don’t mind the colors of an ocean sunset either to balance things out.” Woven textures that nod to beach getaways are appealing, as are light gauzy fabrics with movement like waves in an ocean.

Above all, Cancer wants a place of their own that reflects their interior world—“a home that feels like a keepsake, something that could be passed down and cherished,” says Perrotta. “It should be personal and deeply connected to how they feel.” Ultimately, they want their home to feel like home—not a soulless white box.
