Our monthly series asks: What decor best suits each zodiac sign? Hardworking Capricorns need a well-crafted home with smart details, writes Jill Krasny

Scorpios may crave a home that feels like a luxurious private retreat, while free-spirited Sagittarians thrive in open spaces that truly reflect who they are. The wise Capricorn is a different beast altogether, so as its zodiac season gets underway (December 22-January 20), it’s time to ask: how do you design the perfect home for a Capricorn?

With a gift for tenacity, determination, and focus, Capricorns work hard to achieve their goals, says Anthony Perrotta, an astrologer and interior designer based in Providence, Rhode Island. They may happily splurge on a spacious, high-rise penthouse apartment in east London, designed by award-winning New York architect Alexander Gorlin and tastefully furnished by French architectural firm Studio KO. The home’s airy office, with its large windows and floor-to-ceiling shelving, provides a clear space for work and ample room for storage, of which this hardworking sign would approve.

Capricorns’ meticulous attention to detail makes them highly attuned to craftsmanship, so well-made finishes are a must for them. That said, it’s more about quiet luxury than frivolous extravagance. The east London penthouse apartment’s oak floors, mirrored walls, and marble bathrooms bear Gorlin’s signature modernist eye. They also speak to Capricorn’s love of carefully executed finishes.

A 5,450-square-foot residence in the Irvine Terrace neighborhood of Newport Beach, CA, similarly features great craftsmanship. Covetable features include marble kitchen countertops, European-style oak cabinetry, vein-cut Travertine stone on fireplaces and bath fixtures with brushed nickel and chrome finishes. The spacious walk-in closet also speaks to Capricorns’ love of organization. “This will fuel their need for order,” says Perrotta. Capricorns put thought into everything they do, and the way a home functions matters to them. They are efficient—and like their home to be as well, says Perrotta.

As an Earth sign, Capricorn is naturally drawn to earthy or deep colors, which reflect “their contemplative nature,” says Perrotta. Chocolate browns, deep reds, spruce greens, navy, grey, cream, and black are ideal, as are natural materials like stone and wood. Rugs, throw pillows, and curtains soften things up. Bright colors are a turn-off, and anything too whimsical may overwhelm them. “I would also suggest that leaning too much in the traditional style can feel stifling,” says Perrotta. Capricorns “need a bit more variety than that.”

In some ways, Capricorns are minimalists at heart, so ultra-modern styles work well for them. “A penthouse oozes Capricorn [energy], with their sense of height,” says Perrotta. The London property, with sleek contemporary design, offers panoramic views across the city skyline, giving Capricorns the ability to see far into the horizon.
